David Geenty was born in England in 1945 but spent his youth in South Africa on his father's cattle ranch which was situated in the wilderness of what is now Zimbabwe. He attended Art College in Johannesburg where he was introduced to the work of Moses Kotler a world renowned South African sculptor. This much influenced his early work. However in subsequent years he decided to study mechanical engineering eventually graduating from Glasgow in 1970. He then worked as a naval architect until the ship building industry started to diminish. His real first love of sculpture then re-surfaced and he concentrated his formidable talents on equine study. His work is now amongst collectors who appreciate his quality and unique style.
